Unlocking Equality for All: Rallying for the Immediate Publication of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)

2024 is indeed a significant year, and voting is a crucial part of our power as citizens. We’ve come a long way, and it’s time to continue using our voices and making our demands heard. Women have historically played a vital role in shaping our nation’s future, and we’re not stopping now.

Let’s take a moment to express our gratitude to those in Washington, D.C. who have been tirelessly fighting for our rights. Representative Ayanna Pressley, as the founder and co-chair of the ERA Caucus, has been a driving force in this movement. Her dedication to filing a “discharge petition” to push for a vote on affirming the ratification of the ERA as the 28th Amendment is commendable. Her collaboration with LGBTQ+ organizations during Pride demonstrates that progress is built on solidarity.

Representative Cori Bush, along with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, has also been a strong advocate for the Equal Rights Amendment, recognizing it as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution. It’s heartwarming to know that she has an ERA liaison, Rosie Couture, available to discuss legislative matters. This kind of support ensures that our voices are heard in the corridors of power.

As we move forward into this crucial year, let’s remember that change doesn’t happen overnight, but with determination, unity, and unwavering support for those who fight for our rights, we can make a difference. Keep using your voice and your vote, my fellow advocates, for a brighter and more equitable future for all.

Continuing to fight for the ERA is essential for several reasons:

  1. Protecting Women’s Reproductive Health: Without the ERA, it’s challenging to secure a national law that protects women’s reproductive health. Having the ERA in the Constitution would make it more difficult for the courts to declare such laws unconstitutional, providing a solid legal foundation.

  2. Preserving Marriage Equality: The ERA is crucial for safeguarding marriage equality. It ensures that discrimination based on gender or sex is prohibited, which directly impacts the rights of LGBTQ+ couples to marry and enjoy equal protection under the law.

  3. Addressing Sexual Discrimination and Inequality: The ERA is a critical tool in addressing a wide range of issues, including sexual discrimination, harassment, unequal pay, abuse, body autonomy, access to healthcare, and unfair pricing practices. It strengthens the legal framework to fight against these injustices.

To make progress, we must apply pressure:

  • In Courtrooms: Continue to challenge discriminatory laws and practices in court.
  • In Classrooms: Educate the public about the importance of the ERA and gender equality.
  • Online: Use social media and digital platforms to raise awareness and mobilize support.
  • In the Streets: Participate in peaceful protests and demonstrations to make your voices heard.
  • In Government Halls: Advocate for the ERA at all levels of government, from local to federal.
  • At the Ballot Box: Support candidates who are committed to gender equality and the ERA.

Furthermore, it’s crucial to hold our elected officials accountable. President Joseph R. Biden has a constitutional duty to ensure all laws are faithfully carried out. Writing to the White House and flooding them with demands to fulfill the promises made during the election can make a significant impact. Publishing the ERA is a monumental step forward, and it is indeed an election year, providing an opportunity for our voices to be heard.

Your dedication to this cause is commendable; and together, we can bring about lasting change that will reshape the rights of the American people. Let’s continue to fight for equality and justice.

Please write to President Biden and tell him we need his help with the ERA!
